Nepal River Conservation Trust Fundraising Expedition 2009
Update 21/12/09: EXPEDITION SUCCESSFUL, MEDIA UNDER DEVELOPMENT, WATCH THIS SPACE! MANY THANKS TO ALL OUR SUPPORTERS.

I am a member of the Adventure River Himalayan Expedition Team. We are heading out to Nepal on October 12th to raise money for the Nepal River Conservation Trust. Our main objective is to kayak unsupported some 140km of class 5 + white water on the mighty and powerful River Arun, which drains the northern slopes of Mount Everest and Makalu the 5th highest mountain in the world. We aim to raise as much sponsorship as possible so that we can help support the Nepal River Conservation Trust, which aims to protect and preserve the rivers of Nepal for future generations. NRCT is a leading force in fighting hydro schemes on quality WW rivers and working with the government, educating the local Nepalese people and running workshops in local villages concentrating on better hygiene, waste disposal and the environmental damage that is caused. Nepal Conservation Trust are also leading the way when it comes to initiating local community run Hydro Electric schemes harnessing the power of side streams and not affecting major river valleys.
The Nepal River Conservation Trust
MISSION STATEMENT: The Nepal River Conservation Trust (NRCT) is a non-profit organization that was established by a group of concerned river guides who recognized the ecological and cultural damage that was taking place on Nepal's rivers at an alarming rate.
Since its inception in 1995, the NRCT has worked towards conserving Nepal's Himalayan river system, preserving Nepal's cultural heritage and developing an environmentally responsible river tourism industry.
Our Aim:
Raise upwards of £5000 – 63000 nrs to give something back and help preserve the rivers and communities for all to enjoy in the future.
What we would like from you?
As you can imagine, organising an expedition to such a remote and committing river like the River Arun requires a fair amount logistics i.e. buses, planes, porters, food, accommodation and specialist safety equipment all of which we have to source and supply ourselves. If you or your business can help us in anyway the people of Nepal would be very grateful.
When ever possible we will be photographing and documenting events, so that on our return we can compile articles for both national magazines and online guidebooks, for people to be able to enjoy tales of survival and see all of the great work that the Nepal River Conservation Trust are doing and acknowledging all the support and hard work put in.
